The Institute of Materials and Environmental Chemistry, Chemical Research Centre, Hungarian Academy of Sciences (IMEC CRC HAS) is a non-profit oriented, public research organization. The mission of the Institute is to perform internationally acknowledged research and development in materials science and engineering (MSE) and in environmental chemistry (ENVCHEM).
Research in MSE is aimed at disclosing correlations among composition, microstructure, properties and processing of structural and functional materials, respectively. Activites in ENVCHEM are aimed at reducing enviromental impacts of materials and technologies through chemical research and development.
With over 20 years experience in the synthesis of ceramic powders in thermal plasma conditions and operation of arc and RF thermal plasma systems of laboratory and pilot scale, IMEC will lead WP4 (carbothermal synthesis). Main tasks to be performed will be:
- Thermal plasma synthesis of ceramic powders from the solid by-product of the thermal treatment of waste tyres
- Complex characterization of particular ceramic powders
- Optimization of the synthesis process
- Technical specification of a pilot-scale plasma reactor
